Questions relating to deposits and payments

How much is a deposit?

Deposits are £250 in all cities except London. London property deposits can be either £250 or £500 – depending on the property you choose. You will be told how much your deposit is during the booking process.

How and when do I pay the deposit?

Your deposit is paid when you book your room. It needs to be paid using a credit* or debit card and the cardholder must authorise the payment. (*credit cards incur a surcharge).

How do I pay for the rent?

If you are a student with a permanent UK home address then you will usually have the option of paying in one, four or eight instalments. If your permanent home address is outside the UK then you have the option of one or two instalments.

What are instalments?

An instalment is a part-payment of your total rent amount. If you choose to pay in four instalments, for example, your rent payment will be divided into four payments of 10%, 30%, 40% and 20% of the total cost. The first instalment is potentially taken up to two weeks before your tenancy starts.
If you choose to pay in eight instalments, the total cost is split into eight equal instalments, but the first instalment will also include a £99 admin charge. You will be told the dates on which the money will be collected during the booking process, these will depend on your property and tenancy.

Can I pay by bank transfer?

If you are an international customer and unable to pay by Direct Debit or CCRA (reoccurring card payment), it may be possible for you to pay by bank transfer. Banks may make a deduction on the amount being paid as a transfer fee – if you are paying by bank transfer, you will need to pay enough to cover both the fee and the full rent balance due.
