Social Scenes
The University of Nottingham Students’ Union is less than 10 minutes’ walk from Riverside Point. Home to Mooch restaurant, salad bars, a print shop, The Den function room and an on-site shop stocking its own clothing range, you’ll love living so close to the social hub of the University.
Nottingham city centre is visited by 50,000 people every weekend and has a fantastic variety of pubs and clubs. The city has a variety of theatres and music venues including Rock City which has hosted acts such as The Undertones, Blur and Oasis. The Venue hosts a student night every Thursday, and the Students’ Unions organise a range of student nights and bar crawls – including the infamous ‘Carnage’ – through the academic year.
What
The historic Nottingham city centre is built on a network of caves which date from the time of Robin Hood. There are numerous tours and tourist attractions in the city based around this, including the Caves of Nottingham Tour and the Galleries of Justice.
The Natural History Museum at Wollaton Hall is well worth a visit. Set in 500 acres of gardens and parkland, the grounds were used as the setting for Wayne Manor in the 2012 Batman film ‘The Dark Knight Rises’.
Getting Active
Nottingham has a higher concentration of sports facilities – relative to local population – than any other city in Europe. Local venues include the National Watersport Centre, National Ice Arena and the National Tennis Centre.
The city is home to two historic football clubs; Notts County FC are the oldest existing league football club in the world, and Nottingham Forest FC are former English and European Champions, having been managed by the late Brian Clough.
For cricket fans, the nearby Trent Bridge cricket ground has been hosting test cricket for over a hundred years and still hosts international and county matches.
The National Ice Centre has two ice rinks, one of which is Olympic standard and was used in the 1984 Winter Olympics. The venue is now home to local ice hockey team the Nottingham Panthers.
Many students take part in the Robin Hood Marathon – the route passes many of the city’s most historic sights. The run takes place in the autumn and is part of a wider set of half-marathons and fun runs.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
We provide an unlimited, free bus service for all residents which services the city centre campus, both our properties, University of Nottingham Jubilee Campus and Queens Medical Centre.
If you want to go further afield, Nottingham has a fantastic modern tram service, and a bus service covering a huge percentage of the outer districts.
Nottingham has two train stations, one based in the city centre offering regular services to London as well as neighbouring cities like Derby, Leicester and Birmingham. Nottingham Parkway, situated just outside the city, offers a new high speed connection to London.
Additionally, Riverside Point is located just 10 minutes’ drive from junction 25 of the M1 motorway which connects London to the north of England via the East Midlands. A little further and you can connect to the M42 heading west towards Birmingham or the M69 towards Coventry. With Derby and Leicester close by, Nottingham is located in the heart of the UK.
Local Essentials
The local area has an abundance of convenience and grocery stores. Nearby stores include a Sainsbury’s Local on Lenton Boulevard, an Aldi on Radford Road, and an ASDA supermarket within a 20-minute walk.
There’s a convenience store within a few minutes’ walk of the property. If you need a cashpoint, there’s a Barclays bank within a five-minute walk. A branch of Natwest is also situated in the QMC which is to the right of Riverside Point, within a 10-minute walk. The QMC also has several cafés, plus a restaurant, pharmacy and newsagent.
A short walk around the corner is Lenton Library which, although smaller than the City Library, can be a great space to study.
The city centre offers a huge selection of outlets, and is home to the third most visited shopping centre in the UK. Castle Marina hosts a selection of retail outlets such as PC World, Currys and a large Sainsbury’s.
Your Wellbeing
Students staying at Riverside Point have access to a wide range of welfare services either provided by the universities or within the local community. The Students’ Unions at Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham offer welfare advice and support to all their students and staff.
The University of Nottingham Health Service (UNHS), or Cripps, is based on University Park. The practice specialises in looking after the students and staff of the University of Nottingham and their families and dependants.
The Student Advice Centre provides information and advice on a wide range of issues affecting students, such as housing, education and money. Appointments are available throughout the day and a drop-in service is available most afternoons.
Riverside Point is also located next to the NEMS, an out-of-hours GP service providing urgent medical care and advice whenever your own general practitioner’s (GP) surgery is closed. Nottingham also has two NHS walk-in centres; the closest is on Upper Parliament Street in the city centre.
