Are you starting to think about work experience? We are. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Jisc and the National Centre for Universities and Business to create Placer - the new app for finding work placements and graduate jobs.

Here’s everything you need to know about finding your dream role with Placer.

What is Placer?

Placer is a free-to-use app that universities and businesses use to post student work experience and graduate opportunities. These range from one-day or even one-hour jobs, to longer-term placements and full-time graduate positions.

More than 60 UK universities and colleges are already listing opportunities on Placer, and employers such as the BBC, GSK, HSBC, and Unilever are doing the same.

Living with us? You qualify for exclusive Placer access, whether your university or college has signed up or it hasn’t.

Here’s how it works.

How does Placer work?

Placer is more than just a search engine for jobs, it’s an intelligent matchmaking service. You create a profile that says who you are, what you’re looking for, and what you can do. Placer then shows you opportunities that match your profile.

Opportunities appear as cards, which you can tap for full details. And then, because it’s a matchmaking app, you swipe to do everything else. Swipe up to apply, down to never see it again, right to save it for later, and left to see the next opportunity.

Ready to get started? All it takes is six easy steps.

How to get started with Placer

Usually, Placer is only available to you if your university or college is using it. But, as a Unite Students customer, you’ve got access even if your institution hasn’t signed up.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Download the Placer app (it’s free)
  2. Choose ‘unite students’ from the list of colleges and universities, and tap submit
  3. Enter your Unite Students login details, accept the terms, and tap log on
  4. Confirm your university and year of study to create your account
  5. Read and accept Placer’s privacy policy
  6. Watch the tutorial or start viewing opportunities straight away
