Walking along the Thames
Take a leisurely stroll along the Thames taking in the scenic canal-side.
History buffs should visit the ruined walls of the medieval Reading Abbey founded in 1121 by King Henry I, which still stand close to Reading Town Centre.
This large indoor shopping and leisure mall on the banks of the River Kennet boasts 90 shops and an 11 screen cinema.
The Reading Festival
For music lovers, the world-famous Reading Festival held every August is a must – it is the second largest UK music festival after Glastonbury, and draws in some of the biggest names in the industry. Just remember to take your wellies!
There's plenty of affordable ways to get around Reading using public transport. Reading Buses operates buses around the city and, if you're travelling further afield, Reading railway station makes connecting with cities like London and Bristol simple. It's easy to travel abroad from Reading too, with Heathrow airport around an hour away by train.
Aside from facilities on campus, you can expect to find plenty of gyms in and around Reading, from local to national gyms, some of which are open 24 hours a day. If you like watching live sport, then a visit to the Madesjski Stadium, home of Reading Football Club, is an absolute must.
Reading is a great city for shopping, with plenty of independent retailers as well as national chains. You'll find all the big brand names, including H&M, Apple and Superdry, at The Oracle shopping centre. There's plenty of choice when it comes to food shopping too, with a great range of convenience stores located in the centre of town.
