Social Scenes
The Imperial, the second largest Wetherspoons pub in the country, is a two-minute walk from Northfield and provides great value meals and drinks for the student budget; whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Be sure to check out the themed grill and curry nights.
The Quay is just a 20-minute walk or short taxi ride away from Northfield, and is home to one of the most relaxed parts of the Exeter bar scene - day or night. The Waterfront is popular whatever the time of day or night, and even more so when it’s sunny.
The city centre is home to many bars and nightclubs with weekly student nights. Popular venues include Arena, The Cavern, Timepiece or Mosaic.
The city centre is also home to Starbucks and Costa Coffee, as well as many independent coffee houses where you can meet up with friends or simply watch the world go by.
There are numerous independent and chain bookshops in the city and a wide array of fashion boutiques to choose from.
What
The Exeter Phoenix, the city’s arts centre, offers top quality theatre, dance, live music, and exhibitions throughout the year. The Northcott Theatre is based on Streatham Campus and stages its own productions as well as national tours, comedy nights and concerts.
The Vue Cinema is the main cinema in Exeter, but The Picturehouse is also very popular. Its programme includes art house and classic films, as well as major blockbusters.
Getting Active
The University of Exeter’s Sports Park is located on campus, just off Stocker Road, and is home to some of the South West’s leading sports facilities. The facilities host events from the Athletic Union clubs and societies, plus competitions in the British Universities Sports Association (BUSA) and College Sports events.
Exeter Tennis Centre and the Sir Christopher Ondaatje Devon Cricket Centre are also based here, offering indoor playing space that is unrivalled in the region.
The Sports Park is currently benefitting from an £8million development which has already seen the water-based hockey pitch resurfaced, a new 3G rubber crumb MUGA pitch installed and six outdoor tennis courts covered.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
Northfield’s great location means you can reach the majority of Exeter’s best social venues and campus departments on foot, usually within 15 minutes’ walk. There are many student bars and shops within five minutes of the property, and you can be on Streatham Campus in a matter of minutes.
For quick hoping around the city, the ‘D’ bus service takes you from the Streatham Campus to the city centre and runs regularly.
Conveniently, Exeter St David’s Train Station is five minutes’ walk from Northfield, and provides direct access to London Waterloo, Leeds, Edinburgh, Bristol Temple Meads and Plymouth.
Local Essentials
There are several convenience stores within easy walking distance of Northfield, so you don’t have far to go to grab your food shopping. The property team at Northfield will be happy to advice the nearest stores if and when you need them.
Exeter is home to a range of shopping outlets, from local stores to giant department stores. The standout shopping centres include Princesshay, Guild Hall and Harlequins.

Your Wellbeing
Exeter has two main hospitals; Wonford and Heavitree. Wonford Hospital can be accessed via the ‘H’ bus service from the city centre. Heavitree can be accessed via the ‘D’ bus service which stops at the University’s Streatham Campus.
