There's plenty of affordable ways to get around Sheffield using public transport. Various bus companies operate routes around the city alongside the Stagecoach Supertram service. If you're travelling further afield, Sheffield train station makes connecting with cities like London, Leeds and Manchester simple. It's easy to travel abroad from Sheffield too, with Manchester airport around an hour and 15 minutes away by train.
Aside from facilities on campus, you can expect to find plenty of gyms in and around Sheffield, as well as the Ponds Forge swimming centre, which has both lanes and leisure pools. If you like watching live sport, then a visit to the Crucible Theatre, home of the World Snooker Championships, is an absolute must.
