What’s a villavent and how should I use it?
What is a villavent?
A villavent helps to ventilate your flat by extracting old air and pumping fresh air into a room. You’ll find the villavent unit for your flat in your kitchen above the oven, and connecting vents in your bedroom and bathroom.
How do I use the villavent in my flat?
The villavent unit should be switched on at all times. Without it, your bathroom might become humid and attract mould, and your bedroom won’t get the fresh air it needs.
You should be able to hear the Villavent fan running when it is switched on. If you can’t hear this, or are concerned your villavent isn’t working, please follow these steps:
- Pull the hood out horizontally from the unit, like it is in the image above, and move the fan switch to its highest setting (3).
- Turn off the light by moving the light switch to the off position (0), then push the hood horizontally back into the unit.
- The switches should look like this:
If the fan doesn’t start, you may need to turn the villavent’s fused spur switch on. Please refer to our What’s a fused spur and how should I use it? guide to check this.
How do I use the villavent when I’m cooking?
You should always use the villavent’s extractor hood when cooking on the hob. Before you start cooking, pull the hood out horizontally and move the fan switch to setting 1, 2 or 3, depending on how much extraction you need. When you’ve finished cooking, make sure you leave the fan switch on its highest setting (3), switch off the light and push the hood horizontally back into the unit.
If you think your villavent is broken, please raise a maintenance request in the MyUnite app. A member of our team will be able to help.
