On your doorstep

Social Scenes
The Anvil is a great central location giving you easy access to the city centre, London Road and both Hallam campuses. You’re never more than a quick walk from the action.
The Sheffield Hallam University Students’ Union is only a short walk from the property, so you can really make the most of your time in Sheffield.
We are situated within easy walking distance of Sheffield city centre, where you’ll find a huge range of shops, bars, clubs and restaurants catering to every taste. We are also close to London Road, which has a number of popular and well-priced Asian and Middle Eastern restaurants.
Aside from the busy shops, pubs and clubs of Sheffield, there are plenty of places to visit close to The Anvil. Sheffield city centre boasts two cinemas, the Graves Art Gallery above the library, the Millennium Gallery, the Winter Gardens, the Peace Gardens and the biggest theatre complex outside of London.
If you want to get away from the city, Norfolk Park is nearby, which is one of the oldest public parks in Britain. It’s perfect for sunbathing or having a game of frisbee, and you also get great views of the city.
If outdoor pursuits are your thing, you can easily hop on a bus or train and get to the Peak District National Park in less than half an hour. A world of rock climbing, mountain biking, trekking and country pubs is practically on your doorstep.
Getting Active
The Anvil residents can use The Forge’s gym – just a short walk away – free of charge or there’s a Pure Gym, a five-minute walk away.
On campus, you’ll find sports facilities for rugby, football, hockey, tennis and badminton, amongst many others. These venues are generally available for students to use throughout the year, meaning you can always pop down for a quick game with your friends.
If you’re a football fan, you can walk around the corner to Bramall Lane Stadium, the home of Sheffield United football club.
Whatever your chosen sport, The Anvil is the perfect location to use as a base for competitive participation, or just a fun game with your mates.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
The Anvil is only 10 minutes’ walk from Sheffield railway station, which has regular trains to Manchester, the Peak District, London, or Cleethorpes for a trip to the beach.
We are five minutes from the nearest tram stop (Granville Road). Sheffield’s Supertram can take you anywhere from the University of Sheffield, to Meadowhall shopping centre, to Hillsborough to watch a Sheffield Wednesday F.C. game.
There are several bus stops nearby, and the main bus station is just 15 minutes’ walk away.
With so many transport links close by, it’s easy to make the most of your free time, both in Sheffield and beyond.
Local Essentials
There is a large ASDA within 10 minutes’ walk, as well as a Chinese supermarket and all the large retailers you’d expect in the city centre. There are also a number of cafes and local shops within easy walking distance.
For bigger shopping trips, catch the tram to Meadowhall, which is one of the largest shopping centres in the UK, boasting over 280 shops and restaurants.
Closer to home, the city centre is home to all the high street shops and banks you’d expect in a popular university city.
Your Wellbeing
Sheffield has two main hospitals: the Royal Hallamshire and the Northern General, as well as Charles Clifford dental hospital. Both universities have drop-in health centres on campus. There is also a chemist just opposite The Anvil.
The universities both offer welfare, financial and career advice to all their students and these can be found in various advice clinics across campus.
At The Anvil you’re never too far from any help you may need.
