What is Positive Impact?

Positive Impact is an accreditation scheme, using a workbook of actions to drive improvements in sustainability. The scheme is a collaboration between Unite Students and NUS, delivering a bespoke programme that includes a wide range of sustainability initiatives, including social impact and wellbeing. The programme is an evolution of the NUS Green Impact scheme which runs across a number of universities, colleges and private organisations. Unite Students is the first accommodation provider to run the scheme.

How does it work?

Employees and students in every Unite Students property team up to complete as many actions as they can from the Positive Impact workbook – every one of them is simple, clear and easy to implement. Actions range from promoting energy saving messages and increasing sustainable transport options to promoting charity donation and wellbeing.

At the end of the academic year, the workbooks are audited by students and each team is awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold award depending on how many actions are completed.

In 2017/18 teams from across Unite Students were awarded with 15 Gold, 4 Silver, 4 Bronze Awards and 2 working towards for their achievements. We have been working with the NUS on the environmental accreditation scheme at Unite Students since 2014. We continue to see what we can do to improve and better engage with our students the importance of responsible living.
