Never wedge a fire door open. They must be kept closed at all times to do the job they’re designed for. Your fire door will provide a minimum of 30 minutes’ protection from smoke and flames in a fire, but only if it’s closed.
When it’s installed, cared for, and used properly, a fire door will save your life. The installation and care is our job but we need your help to make sure doors are used properly.
Keep it closed at all times. It’s that simple.
A fire door is a safety device. The door itself, the frame, hinges, lock, seals - they all work together to form a protective barrier against fire and smoke.
If you wedge a fire door open, you make it useless and you put your life and the lives of others in danger.
Fire doors in common areas of your flat and home are clearly marked with a blue fire door sign - they must be there by law.
Your room door is a fire door too but it might not have the blue sign.
If you’re unsure and you’d like to know, just ask your reception team.
