About the Common Room | The Writing Academy
We publish articles and videos to the Common Room to help students through university life, so they can achieve their academic goals and prepare for their careers.
Everything we publish should reassure students about a new or difficult experience or feeling, and give practical ideas for managing it.
Articles from professional and student writers, as well as video content from student vloggers, make up the Common Room. This gives our readers a healthy mix of peer-to-peer support and guidance based on experience and perspective.
- Read Being a student writer for more about contributing your story.
Common Room readers are first-year university students with questions about physical and mental health, study and career planning, food and cooking, money and budgeting, and living in shared housing.
They’re also final year A-Level students, second and third year undergraduates, parents, and postgraduate students of all ages. What they all have in common is the need to know more about university life.
The Common Room is run from the Unite Students head office in Bristol, by Alexandra Hepworth (Editorial Manager), Daniel Mehmet (Copywriter), Samantha White (Social Media Executive), and Lucy Way (Social Media Assistant).
