Social Media Community Guidelines

Our use of social media

We use social media to share resident experiences, property and room tour content, student advice and student related trends, and to build a community with our residents and the wider student and parent/guardian community.

We also use our channels to share information about our partners and partner giveaways in line with our Perks at Unite Students page and to share business updates on LinkedIn.

It’s important our social media spaces are a respectful and safe place for our community to have discussions and share their comments and questions.

We value the safety and wellbeing of our residents and the wider online community and ask that you please adhere to our community guidelines below.

Comments or replies posted on our social media channels, which are not posted by Unite Students, don’t necessarily represent our views.

How you should engage with us on social media

We encourage direct messages and comments on our posts however we ask that you:

• Are respectful of others in your engagement

• Follow our platform guidelines and the guidelines of the social media platforms themselves

• Do not post spam (i.e. advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc)

• Do not send or post comments which are bullying, harassing, discriminatory, hateful, sexually explicit, profane or abusive

• Do not post anything that could reasonably be considered libellous or defamatory

• Do not commit any illegal acts through your posts

How we moderate our social media

We want to keep our social media channels a welcoming and safe space, so while deleting or hiding content or comments on our posts is out of character for us, our position is that any user who is in breach of our community guidelines will have their comments/content hidden or removed from our channels.

Whilst our social media channels are monitored 24/7 decisions on any necessary moderation, blocking and / or deletion will tend to take place during working hours (between 8.30am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday).

What we won’t tolerate

We won’t tolerate disruptive, offensive or abusive behaviour, unlawful or objectionable content. This includes any material which might be defamatory, offensive, infringing, obscene, lewd, pornographic, violent, abusive, insulting, threatening, harassing, discriminatory, blasphemous, indecent or otherwise unlawful or objectionable. It also includes any material which is aggressive, argumentative or likely to be construed as bullying.

If an individual continues to send messages or post content/comments that break our community guidelines then we’ll be forced to block the user from our channels. We won’t tolerate messages, content or links that are racist, sexist, homophobic, bullying, abusive to our residents, employees or content creators, endorsing illegal activity or endorsing any activities against the values of Unite Students.

The moderation of our social media channels, and what is deemed suitable, is at the absolute discretion of Unite Students.
