Social Scenes
William Murdoch is centrally located, close to all that Birmingham City centre has to offer. A short walk into town takes you to the renowned shopping district, where you’ll find the famous Bullring shopping centre - home to a huge number of high street fashion stores. Grand Central is located above Birmingham New Street Station and alongside the Bullring, and has plenty of popular restaurants and cafés to choose from. 
Birmingham isn’t short of night life either, with Broad Street a popular hot spot for students. Offering everything from canalside bars, restaurants and even comedy nights, there’s something for everyone here. Popular amongst students, you’ll find Walkabout, Popworld and Revolution amongst many others. 
Brindley Place is nearby and offers even more in the form of bars and restaurants, Just a short walk from Aston Student Village, Brindley Place provides canalside views and regular entertainment. But if you don’t want to travel far from campus at all, Aunt Sally’s Caribbean restaurant and American Diner, Celebz, is around the corner from Aston Student Village.
Aston Student Village plays host to a number of its own events, based in the grounds surrounding the lake. Enjoy summer BBQ’s and live music entertainment on your doorstep. Weekly street food pop ups and annual music festivals take place in the city centre too – so you won’t be short of things to do if you’re into food and music. 
If you’re looking for a little more culture and if you’re keen to explore the city – Birmingham has many miles of canal, in fact, more than Venice! These are great places to explore by bike or even find a quiet spot to picnic or study with friends.
If the weather’s nice and you’re looking to escape the city centre, Birmingham’s Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses are full of character and based in a picturesque setting. With beautiful gardens to enjoy and a cosy tea room, it makes for a great day out. 
For a little more culture, the Birmingham Hippodrome is well worth a visit – playing host to some of the best musicals, pantomimes and even operas. The Birmingham Museum and art galleries aren’t far from the property either, with regular events and exhibitions. 
Getting Active
If you like to keep active, as well as many miles of canal to walk or cycle along, there’s plenty of gyms nearby in the city centre. Many of these offer student rates so they’re affordable too. The second oldest swimming pool in the UK is on site, part of Aston Student Village – with the University leisure facilities and sports centres just around the corner, on campus. 
Birmingham City is home to three major football stadiums. Birmingham City, West Brom and Aston Villa are all located in the centre of town. So, if you’re a football fan, make sure to take a tour of the Aston Villa stadium and hear all about the venue’s long history.
If you’re into music, the Barclaycard arena is located in the City centre, so be sure to keep up to date with what shows and events they have coming up.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
This property is located centrally and is a short walk from the town centre. The National Express Coach Station is located in Digbeth and offers great value travel across the UK. Alternatively, there are three major train stations nearby, including Birmingham New Street and Snow Hill. Regular buses and a newly installed metro system provided regular travel around popular routes throughout the day.
If you’re looking to fly to or from Birmingham Airport, it is well connected to the city centre by both bus and train routes. Simply head to Birmingham International Station by bus or train and you’re there.
Local Essentials
There’s a larger ASDA and Aldi just a short bus journey away, alternatively there are plenty of smaller local supermarkets close to the property, such as Tesco Express and Sainsburys Local.
Pretty much everything you’ll need as a student is on your doorstep – including the University Library. The National Library is also easily accessible by bus or a short walk and open to the public Monday to Saturday.
All major banks are nearby on Corporation Street, the nearest to the property being Lloyds TSB and HSBC. 
Your Wellbeing
There is support offered to all students through their University – whether this be welfare, financial or career, there will be someone to talk to.  These are usually located at various advice clinics located on campus.
There is further support located at Aston Student Village itself, with each flat assigned an ‘Aston Auntie’ from day one. They will organise trips and be on hand to offer support and guidance to those who need it. 
Your nearest pharmacy will be located on the ground floor of Boots – just a few minute’s walk into the city centre. You’ll find your local surgery and walk in centre here too. 
The nearest major hospital is City Hospital. Located on Dudley Road and providing a range of general and specialist services.
