Purbeck House is located within walking distance of the university, town centre and beaches of Bournemouth. It is in a fantastic location to shop, study and socialise.
An outstanding feature of Bournemouth is the Jurassic coastline and seven miles of Blue Flag beaches.
Bournemouth town centre is a haven for students, with many pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés available that cater to the student budget.
Popular student venues include; 176 Lounge, Bliss and Dusk Til Dawn. All have weekly student nights during term-time, and provide a great way of meeting new people.
If you want something a bit more relaxed, head to Aruba, which is a bar located on Bournemouth Pier that provides great views of the sea.
Many entertainment venues are within easy reach of Purbeck House due to its central location. The town centre is a five-minute walk away and the beaches are just 15 minutes away.
Bournemouth is a very easy place to get around. The town centre, beaches and nightlife are all close to each other, with walks through award-winning gardens to get from one destination to another.
You should rarely need to use a taxi unless you want to see more of the beautiful coastline.
After a long day on the beach, shopping with your friends, or enjoying quiet refreshments at one of Bournemouth’s seafront cafés and bars, you can easily return to your room at Purbeck House in under 15 minutes.
Getting Active
AFC Bournemouth are in England’s football Championship league following their promotion in 2012/13. They have plenty of local support and tickets are readily available should you want to go and watch them play.
Bournemouth is best known for water sports, especially surfing. There are many water sports clubs and societies to join, if you don’t mind the cold water! In addition, just 25 miles up the coast, you will find the London 2012 Olympic venue where the windsurfing and sailing took place in Weymouth.
In addition, Bournemouth University has excellent sports facilities including; sports halls and pitches, gyms, health zones, cricket facilities, and dance studios.

Travel and Transport
Although all that Bournemouth has to offer is available on foot, you may also want to visit Weymouth, Poole, and London during your studies. Purbeck House is located just 500 metres from Bournemouth railway station and provides access to the rest of the UK.
Poole is home to the second largest natural harbour in the world, and has a reputation for water sports, seafront cafés and bars, as well as having a small town centre that's worth a visit. You can also catch the ferry from here to Jersey.
Being on the south coast, you are close to Weymouth, and Southampton with its wide array of city centre shopping outlets and coastline.
Further afield, you are a two-hour train ride from Bristol, the South West’s largest city, and London Paddington train station.
Local Essentials
At the end of Oxford Road, just minutes from Purbeck House, is an ASDA Superstore. All of the major high-street banks can be found in Bournemouth town centre, which is a 10-minute walk away, with many local shops having Link cashpoints too. The university library can be found on-site at the Talbot Campus.
Bournemouth offers shoppers a fabulous day out. Most of the town centre is pedestrianised with shops, boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops. If you venture into Old Christchurch Road, the Kanoo Foreign Exchange offers a comprehensive range of foreign exhange services.
The town centre is set against the backdrop of the award-winning gardens which run through the centre of the town and lead to the beach.
Westbourne is an elegant district of Bournemouth located on the way to Poole, known affectionately as 'The Village', it offers a mix of design specialists, beauty stores, and delicious delis and restaurants.
Boscombe is another area of Bournemouth that should be explored if you're looking for a quirky gift or bargain. Boscombe is also famous for the antique shops along the Christchurch Road, and the open-air market, which is open on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Purbeck House has an on-site welfare officer located in B Block, who can assist with any welfare issues, such as flat disputes. There are also other services available such as student finance, which is located at Talbot Campus, a 15-minute bus journey away.
