Glasgow’s West End is a well sought after area, especially for students. It is home to both Byres Road and the popular Ashton Lane that boasts some of the best bars, restaurants and cafés within the city. Ashton Lane also hosts a quirky two screen Cinema.
Glasgow is second only to London in the UK for shopping and, as Thurso Street is in the heart of the West End, you are surrounded by independent boutiques. Glasgow City Centre is only a 20-minute walk away; home to a great range of high street and designer stores.
Thurso Street is also on the doorsteps of attractions such as Kelvingrove Art Gallery, The Hunterian Museum and the Riverside Museum, all of which are free to visit.
Thurso Street is minutes away from Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena which features badminton courts, five-a-side football and a state of the art gym. All of the city’s universities and further education establishments have their own sports clubs, so whatever your sport, there are a number of organisations that will keep you active whilst in Glasgow.

Hampden Park is the national football team’s stadium and is just 20-30 minutes from the city centre. Thurso Street provides the perfect base to explore Glasgow and make the most of your time at university, whatever you may be interested in. Thurso Street sits at the foot of Kelvingrove Park, a popular location for students and city residents alike, especially in the spring and summer months.
Glasgow is famous for its music scene, with a wide range of venues that are well worth visiting. From smaller venues such as King Tuts Wah Wah Hut (where Oasis were discovered) to larger venues like the S.E.C.C (Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre) and the O2 Glasgow, where you can see international acts on their UK tours.
If you know anything about Glasgow you will know that most Glaswegians are passionate about football. There are three major stadiums in Glasgow, all within travelling distance. Home to the national football team's stadium, Hampden Park is 20-30 minutes away from the city centre, as is the other major stadium, Ibrox Stadium (Home to Rangers Football Club) and Celtic Park (Home to Glasgow Celtic Football Club). Taking in any sporting occasion is a must in Glasgow.

Travel and Transport
Thurso Street is close to all transport links in Glasgow and is easily accessible by car, bus or train. It is minutes away from Kelvinhall underground station which offers access to the rest of the city at a reasonable price.
Thurso Street is also minutes away from Partick train station which has frequent links into Glasgow Central, where you would then be able to explore the rest of the UK.
The Glasgow underground system allows you to travel around various areas of the city in a short space of time. The nearest station to Thurso Street is Kelvinhall, just three-minutes’ walk away.
Glasgow Airport is also 15 minutes away via road. If you don’t have access to a car, catch a bus from Dumbarton Road. There are a number of local buses that operate in and around the city and also travel to surrounding areas.
Whilst you are in Glasgow don’t miss out the opportunity to take the train from Queen Street to explore the Scottish Highlands or visit Edinburgh, which is only an hour away.
Local Essentials
Thurso Street is close to local shops and banks. Just minutes from the property you’ll find mini supermarkets on Argyle Street and Dumbarton Road, including a Sainsbury’s Local and a Tesco Metro.
Should you wish to shop for everyday essentials then you can use the Tesco Metro which is situated on Dumbarton Road.
For more choice, there is a Morrison’s supermarket five-minutes’ walk from the property. Also close by, you’ll find a range of high street banks on Byres Road.
For students studying at Glasgow University, the library is on University Avenue, just a 10-minute walk from Thurso Street.
Your Wellbeing
The nearest hospital to Thurso is the Western Infirmary. This is just opposite Thurso Street and has a 24-hour Accident & Emergency department. You can also access GPs based in the health centre section at the Hospital.
You can register with many local dental practices or contact the Glasgow Dental Hospital which is situated on Sauchiehall Street, and is 15 minutes away from Thurso Street should you require treatment.
