Where to stay

If you’re studying at the College of St Hild and St Bede, Hatfield College, St Chad’s College, or St Cuthbert’s Society, Elvet Studios and Rushford Court is our closest University of Durham accommodation. Elvet Studios is located west of the city centre, from where you’ll be walking distance to your college. Nearby, there is a range of bars and restaurants, including a Cosy Club, and if you want to take in some culture, you’ll be close to Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral.

Rushford Court is slightly further away from your lecture hall but puts you closer to the city centre. Durham has a lively city centre with a good selection of stores in The Riverwalk Shopping Centre and a busy nightlife. It’ll just be a short walk back to your University of Durham student accommodation from popular bars including Revolution and Head of Steam, with plenty of choices when it comes to grabbing some food on the way home. There are also several supermarkets nearby, allowing you to grab essentials on a budget.

For students studying at one of the colleges south of the city centre, Houghall Court could be the best University of Durham accommodation for you. You’ll be close to the main campus, where you’ll find St Mary’s College, Grey College, Trevelyan College, Collingwood College, St Aidan’s College and Van Mildent College. Being walking distance from your lecture halls will help you make those early starts and put extra hours in when exam season rolls around. Houghall Court is also right next door to The Fitness Centre and The Graham Sports Centre, perfect for training with the university sports teams.
