Britain's second city...

Birmingham is a friendly cosmopolitan city that likes to do things big. More parks than any other European city, one of the largest motorway junctions in Europe and the largest public library in Europe make Birmingham one of the best places for students with big aspirations to fully flourish.

Local area

There's plenty of affordable ways to get around Birmingham using public transport. Various bus companies operate around the city and, if you're travelling further afield, Birmingham New Street train station makes connecting with cities like London and Manchester simple. It's easy to travel abroad from Birmingham too, with Birmingham Airport around 10 minutes away by train.

Aside from facilities on campus, you can expect to find plenty of gyms in Birmingham, many of which offer student rates. If you like watching live sport, then a visit to Villa Park Stadium, one of the UK's Victorian football stadiums and home of Aston Villa, is an absolute must.

Birmingham is a great city for shopping, with plenty of independent shops and boutiques as well as national chains. You'll find all the big brand names, including H&M, All Saints and Superdry, at the Bullring - there's also a Selfridges department store if you fancy treating yourself to some designer labels! There's plenty of choice when it comes to food shopping too, with Tesco Express, Asda and Morrisons supermarkets within reach.
