Margaret Rule is situated in an ideal city centre location, perfect to make the most of student life in Portsmouth, and just a few minutes’ walk from Portsmouth and Southsea railway station. Margaret Rule’s great location means you have easy access to popular student areas such as Guildhall Walk, and Gunwharf Quays Retail Outlet and restaurants, bars and café’s. It is situated within 5 minutes’ walk of the University main campus and close to the city’s main shopping centre.

Facilities at Margaret Rule Hall

Reception
Our friendly reception is shared with Chaucer House and will be open Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday 9am - 5pm.
Common Room
Margaret Rule Hall shares the common room facilities at Chaucer House.
Laundry Facilities
There are three laundry rooms at Margaret Rule Hall, located on the 2nd, 4th and 5th floors. Machines are operated through the MyUnite app.
Parking
There is no parking available at Margaret Rule Hall.
Bike Storage
The bike store is located in the ground floor of the building and can be accessed from the street. A Key/Pass will be required for access. If you are planning on bringing your bike then please remember to bring your own bike lock.
Recycling
Recycling facilities are available at Margaret Rule Hall.
Fire Test Day
Fire alarms are fitted throughout the property. Your fire alarm test day is Tuesday at 10.30am. Your fire assembly point is located on King Henry Street by the NCP Car Park.
Key Type
You will receive a key card on arrival at the property, which you can use to access your room and communal areas.
Emergencies
Our Emergency Contact Centre is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Just call 0300 303 1611 for assistance.

Important information for check-in day at Margaret Rule Hall

Where do I collect my key?

You will need to go to Reception to check-in. Once you have checked in you will receive your key in the form of a key card.

Where can I park and unload my car?

Drop off points will be available outside the building in 20 minute windows. Help will be on hand to assist. For longer parking there is an NCP multi-storey nearby (Isambard Brunel NCP Car Park PO1 2BX) with no maximum stay and prices starting from £1.60 per hour. There are also other paid car parks across the city.

When can I move into Margaret Rule Hall?

You can check in at any point from the start date of your tenancy. You can find your tenancy start date in your tenancy agreement or by logging into MyAccount here.
If you are going to be arriving much later than the start of your tenancy, just let us know and we will arrange for someone to be there to greet you and make sure you get the keys to your new home. If you are planning to move in outside of our reception opening hours, please contact our emergency contact centre on 0300 303 1611.
