The city offers a choice of small independent shops and stylish boutiques alongside the big names. Southgate is a modern shopping development which follows historic Bath’s Georgian-style. The bigger brands can be found within this shopping area such as River Island, Hollister, Superdry, All Saints and many more. Bath is compact and easily walkable with grand Georgian streets and small picturesque passageways to explore.
 
There are plenty of restaurants and cafés scattered around Bath, many are locally owned and produce homemade food which gives Bath an independent feel. You’ll also find Starbucks, Costa and Caffè Nero.
 
Within the Georgian city you’ll also find big-name restaurants and pubs such as Nando's, Pizza Express, Jimmy Spices, Wetherspoons, Slug and Lettuce, and Gourmet Burger Kitchen. Bath is also home to one of Jamie Oliver’s popular restaurants.
 
Bath Spa train station has recently undergone some refurbishments and as a result there is a new food court which hosts Nando's and a popular west country chain, Graze, which offers locally produced Bath Ales.
 
Students will love the choice of bars and pubs on offer around Bath. There are lots of cocktail bars many of which can be found within basements, giving them a quirky feel. Whether you’re on a night out on the town or just fancy a chilled evening, Bath will have something for you.
What
Known for its many beautiful Georgian buildings and natural hot springs, the city of Bath is one of the UK’s world heritage sites. It’s a historical city with great architecture and parks. The city has many museums and galleries, and hosts various arts festivals throughout the year.
 
The city offers many enjoyable outdoor activities. You can take a boat trip on the River Avon, relax in one of the parks or make use of the superb sports facilities.
 
Bath is surrounded by wonderful countryside and interesting places. Stonehenge, Salisbury, Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, Oxford and Bristol are all within easy reach.
 
If you want to relax, then why not take advantage of the natural thermal waters, as the Romans did over 2000 years ago, at Thermae Bath Spa. Thermae Bath Spa is an award-winning day spa, combining the 'old and new'. The historic spa buildings, the Hot and Cross Baths blend with the contemporary design of the New Royal Bath. Together, they offer bathing in the warm, mineral-rich waters and a range of spa treatments designed to ease the body and soothe the mind. You can take in the views of Bath by day or night on the rooftop heated pool.
 
The Theatre Royal is one of the oldest and most beautiful theatres in Britain. The theatre is located in the centre of Bath and is surrounded by several restaurants and pubs so can you enjoy a bite to eat before or after the performance. There is a VUE cinema and also The Little Theatre Cinema which shows a selection of mainstream releases, art-house and classic movies.
 
Komedia comedy club is very popular with students. Not only do they host comedy nights, but they also put on live music nights for students to enjoy.
 
In and around Bath you will find many open green spaces and parks including the 57-acre Royal Victoria Park, perfect to chill out with friends and have picnics in the summer months.
Getting Active
The University of Bath has a history of sporting excellence. Teaching and facilities are complemented by a team of professional coaches, who work with a wide range of athletes up to Olympic level.
 
Their facilities are available for their students to use and include an Olympic size swimming pool, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, all-weather pitches and an athletics track. The university offers a wide range of clubs and societies, instruction and tuition.
 
Bath Spa University also offers its students many on-campus activities; the Students’ Union plays a key role in making sure that students get the most out of their social and sporting life whilst at university. The university also hosts many cultural events for students to get involved in both on campus and in Bath itself. 
 
There are plenty of gyms to choose from in and around Bath, from local to national gyms including Fitness First. Fitness First is situated in the centre of Bath and has a swimming pool as well. There is also a local leisure centre in town.
 
If you like watching live sport, in particularly rugby, the Recreation Ground, home of Bath Rugby, is only a 25-minute walk away.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
Bath Spa train station is located in the centre of Bath. It is a short walk from the city’s shops and attractions and only a 20-minute walk from Charlton Court, or a five-minute bus journey.
 
Regular train services run direct from London Paddington and London Waterloo to Bath Spa, with an average journey time of around 90 minutes.
 
Within 15 minutes' train journey you can be in Bristol Temple Meads, which is a major hub for travel to all other parts of the country. A number of services to Bath Spa will change at Bristol Temple Meads including services from northern England, Scotland, Devon and Cornwall.
 
Bath bus station is adjacent to Bath Spa train station, so you can easily get the bus from the station to Charlton Court in a journey time of five minutes.
 
There is a bus stop outside the property, so travelling around by bus is very convenient and easy for all students. Charlton Court is also on the main bus route into Bristol.
Local Essentials
Charlton Court is only 10 minutes’ walk from the main Sainsbury’s supermarket, as well as Moorland Road with its range of shops and restaurants which is close by in Oldfield Park.
 
You will also find a bank, post office, chemist, Co-operative supermarket and hairdressers here.
Your Wellbeing
There is an NHS walk-in centre 10 minutes’ walk from the property which is very popular amongst students, as you don’t need to make an appointment. There is also a dentist located in the Oldfield Park area, just off of Moorland Road.
 
The main hospital in Bath is the RUH (Royal United Hospital). This is approximately a 10-minute walk from the property.
 
Professional careers advice, library services and medical centres can all be found within both of the universities' campuses.
