How to book Cardiff student accommodation

To get started, simply go to the Unite Students website and:

  1. Choose your property and room type from the selection – please note: our rooms are single occupancy only.
  2. Get in touch to arrange a viewing – or take a 360° virtual tour.
  3. Choose your tenancy length – stay the whole year, the academic year, or for a shorter period, like a semester.
  4. Enter your personal details – including your name, date of birth, country of residence, university of study and course.
  5. Enter your guarantor’s details – they must be at least 25 or over and may be liable for your rent should you miss or fail to keep up with payments.
  6. Enter your payment details - enter your credit or debit card details or set up a direct debit and never worry about missing a payment again.
  7. Choose an instalment plan – pay in either one, three or seven instalments.

To book student accommodation in Cardiff, you must be:

  • At least 16 years old.
  • A student in higher education.

You’ll get:

  • 7 Day Cooling-Off-Period – If you change your mind or need to withdraw your application, you can cancel your accommodation up to seven days after receiving your booking confirmation.
  • No Place, No Pay - If you don’t get your place at university or would like to go to a different university instead, you may be eligible to withdraw your application. Please note: this applies to first-year students only.

Ways to pay

Paying for your student accommodation in Cardiff is quick and easy.

You can pay by:

  1. Direct debit
  2. Card payment
  3. UnionPay (for international students)

When you make your booking, you can either pay in one, three or seven instalments. All bills are included at Unite Student properties, meaning no unexpected additional costs.

While a deposit isn’t needed, an advance rent may be required. This is a fraction of the full-year amount, and we put this towards your first rent instalment.

If you wish to pay in full, you’ll still need a guarantor. This is someone over 25 who can guarantee payments will be maintained if you’re unable to pay rent on time – for example, a parent or legal guardian.

Direct debit

Choose to pay by direct debit and we’ll automatically deduct your rent payments form your bank.

Pay by card

Pay in full or cost-friendly instalments using a credit or debit card. We accept Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard and Maestro.


International students can pay with UnionPay.

When should I book student accommodation in Cardiff?

You can book your student accommodation in Cardiff for the next academic year from the first week in November. Cardiff is a popular city for students, so the sooner you get your application in the better. This way you can relax, knowing everything has been taken care of.

If you’re applying for university through clearing, there may still be rooms available. If there aren’t any rooms at that time, you can join our waiting list. And if you don’t get your place you can cancel for free with our No Place, No Pay policy. (Applicable to first year students only).
