Social Scenes
Southwark is home to plenty of old pubs, art galleries, markets, restaurants and bars. There is a wide variety of venues ranging from traditional pubs to roof-top dining with views across the River Thames. Borough High Street is close to Wellington Lodge with a variety of shops, restaurants, cafés and a cinema.
Oxford Street and Bond Street are less than 10 minute’s journey from Wellington Lodge, so you’re close to one of the best shopping areas in London where you’ll find most of the top high-street and designer brands.
Covent Garden and Leicester Square are also a short journey away for some of the nightlife central London has to offer with comedy gigs, street entertainment, live music and theatre productions every night of the week.
Plus, excellent transport links from the property mean you can reach all areas of London easily, from Camden Town and Islington to Kensington and Chelsea in west London and Shoreditch and Brick Lane in east London.
What
Southwark has a lot to offer art lovers with Tate Modern, the Bankside Gallery and the new South London Gallery close by. Southbank offers a range of entertainment from attractions such as the London Dungeons, to The Scoop at More London. There is a local outdoor amphitheatre with free events throughout June to September, showing films, music and theatre. 
There are plenty of things to do along London’s Southbank, from relaxing in Bernie Spain Gardens or Jubilee Gardens, to taking a tour along the River Thames on a London Duck Tour, to watching the latest blockbusters at the BFI IMAX Cinema.
Wellington Lodge is within 10 minutes’ journey from many of London’s best attractions including the London Eye, The Shard, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre and SEA LIFE London Aquarium.
The O2 Arena is just a quick journey away on the Jubilee line and includes the O2 Arena music venue, a museum of popular music, a cinema and exhibitions. You can even climb across the roof of the dome with ‘Up at the O2’. 
Borough Market, a famous food market with over 100 fruit, vegetable and butcher stalls, is just a 10-minute walk from the property and is one of the oldest and largest markets in London. HMS Belfast, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge are also just a short journey away.
The property is just 20 minutes’ journey from Buckingham Palace, St. James' Park, Green Park and Hyde Park to watch the changing of the guards or ride Boris bikes through the parks. Hyde Park has a boating lake, numerous cafés and open-water swimming (June-September) at the Serpentine Lido. The park also hosts a number of events and concerts throughout the year.
Getting Active
There are a number of gyms and leisure centres close to the property. The closest to Wellington Lodge is The Gym Waterloo on Waterloo Road, and there are many others locally including CrossFit Central London on Ewer Street and Bankside Health Club on Southwark Street.
The Colombo Centre is just 15 minutes’ walk away on Colombo Street, and has a range of sports facilities including badminton, tennis and basketball courts, and football pitches.
Many students make the most of the property’s great location by jogging along the River Thames, just a few hundred metres from the property.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
Waterloo station is just five minutes from Wellington Lodge where you can catch the Bakerloo, Jubilee and Northern underground lines and mainline services. Trains run direct to Embankment, Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus and Regent's Park on the Bakerloo line. You can reach Leicester Square, Camden Town, King’s Cross St Pancras and Clapham on the Northern line, and the Jubilee line will take you to Green Park, Bond Street and London Bridge.
Lambeth North (on the Bakerloo line) is just seven minutes from the property and Southwark station (on the Jubilee line) is just eight minutes away.
The area is well served by a number of bus routes. Useful local bus routes include the 1 service to Canada Water, the 68 service to Euston, the 188 service to Russell Square station, and the N68/N171 services to Tottenham Court Road.
Local Essentials
There are a range of convenient local stores within 10 minutes’ walk of Wellington Lodge. There are a number of newsagents, hairdressers and dry cleaners on Waterloo Road, just around the corner.
Other local stores include a hairdresser, two grocery shops, a post office, several pubs and dozens of restaurants. There is also a range of high-street banks within 10 minutes’ walk.
Local supermarkets include a Sainsbury’s Local, Iceland and Marks & Spencer, all of which are within a few minutes’ walk of Wellington Lodge.

Locally, there are two large hospitals within a short walk from Wellington Lodge; Lambeth St Thomas' Hospital on the bank of the Thames by Lambeth North station, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation, just around the corner from London Bridge station.
