Social Scenes
Located in the centre of town, you’ll have a choice of bars, pubs, restaurants and shopping on your doorstep.
The town centre is home to a fantastic range of high-street shops, markets, boutiques and independent stores. The town’s multiplex cinema has an Italian restaurant and different shops including high-street fashion outlets, a Chinese supermarket, Wilkinsons and many others. 
You’ll be ideally located to experience Loughborough student nightlife, just a short walk from the town centre bars, pubs, clubs and student nights.
A market is held every Thursday and Saturday with more than 100 stalls selling an amazing range of good. Plus, foodies will enjoy the farmers market that is held on the second Wednesday of each month.
Loughborough Student’s Union is just a 15-minute walk from Waterways. Home to two clubs, five bars, three shops and a pub complete with beer garden, you’ll love living so close to the social hub of the university.
The Edward Herbert Building (known to students as ‘EHB’) is home to a large bar with lunch buffet menu, dozens of sofas, Sky Sports TV and two pool tables, as well as a host of lecture theatres. Just across from the Students Union, it’s the perfect place to grab lunch between lectures.
For a change of scenery, you can reach Leicester in less than 45 minutes via the bus stop on Epinal Way, or in around 10 minutes on the train.
What
During the year you’ll find all sorts of events taking place in Loughborough town centre including music, dance and comedy. Every August the Market Place turns into the seaside, with beaches for kids to play in. In November an annual street fair takes over the town centre in a riot of sound and light. In the run-up to Christmas, Loughborough offers a whole range of entertainment, as well as fantastic festive illuminations.
Loughborough has four museums, the largest being the centrally located Charnwood Museum which houses a range of exhibits reflecting the natural history, geology, industry and history of the area.
Loughborough University has a great event calendar. See your favourite band or artist at the Students’ Union and get involved with university events.
If you’re looking to relax after lectures or at the weekend, take a walk down to Queen’s Park, or climb the Carillon Tower for views stretching past the University campus and out across Leicestershire.
You’ll want to take advantage of the local cities while at Loughborough, so head to the train station for a short 10-minute train ride into Leicester, a little further down the line you’ll reach Nottingham.
 
Getting Active
Loughborough’s campus is home to some of the finest sporting facilities of any university in Europe. A short journey from campus, Waterways is ideally located to allow you to allow you to take advantage of these facilities.
The world-class National Cricket Performance Centre is situated on campus, just 10 minutes’ walk from The Holt. Home to the England Cricket team; don’t be surprised to see members of the national squad training as you explore campus.
A number of gyms are within close proximity, including LA Fitness. Plus, the campus-based student gyms ‘Powerbase’ and ‘LUFS’ are close by.
On campus, you’ll find leading sports facilities for rugby, football, hockey, tennis and badminton among many others. These venues are generally available for students to use throughout the year, meaning you can always pop down for a quick game with your friends.
For fans of professional sports, the close proximity to Leicester and Nottingham means you can see Leicester Tigers Rugby Club play a short train journey away, or pop into Nottingham to see the former European Champions Nottingham Forest football club.
Whatever your chosen sport, Waterways provides the perfect location to use as a base for your competitive participation or just a fun game with your mates.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
Waterways benefits from excellent transport links. You can catch a bus to Loughborough University close to the property and reach campus in less than 15 minutes.
The train and bus station is just a 15-minute walk from the property, offering regular links across the UK with direct trains to London, Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham, among others.
Additionally, Waterways is less than 10 minutes’ drive from junction 23 of the M1 motorway which connects London to the North of England via the East Midlands. This makes Loughborough a great starting point for exploring more of the UK at weekends and during the holidays.
Local Essentials
You’ll be spoilt for choice with Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer’s supermarkets within five minutes’ walk. Plus, there are plenty of smaller food shops and takeaways.
The central location means you’ll have everything you need close by with banks, hairdressers and other amenities a couple of minutes’ walk away. 
The Loughborough Students Union (SU) also has a convenience store with pharmaceuticals, snacks, basic foods, and newspapers. The SU is also home to a bookstore with all the textbooks you’ll need for your course. There’s also a Piazza café that serves Starbucks refreshments to enjoy between studying. The Pilkington Library is also located on campus.
Your Wellbeing
The University offers all its students on-site medical care which can be accessed between the Students' Union and the Library on University Road.
You can also get welfare, financial and career advice on campus at various advice clinics across the university. Waterways is just a short bus journey from all the campus departments so you’ll never be far away from the help you may need.  
Aside from the campus facilities, Loughborough Hospital (which includes the Family Planning Clinic and the Loughborough Urgent Care Centre) is located on Epinal Way just past the University Campus, around 15 minutes’ walk from Waterways.
