About Parkway Gate

Parkway Gate is right in the heart of Manchester, just a stone’s throw from the bustling nightlife at Deansgate Locks. Or, if that’s not your scene, wander down to the charming Home MCR cinema and theatre. Within a 5 minute walk you also have Manchester Metropolitan University’s main campus, Oxford Street train station and fellow Unite Students building Piccadilly Point, where you are welcome to use the free on-site gym. Parkway Gate’s homely atmosphere is alleviated by the spacious common room ideal for weekday and weekend hangouts.

The Premium Range 2 en-suite rooms offer additional floor space and are packed with features such as a private bathroom, a comfortable 3/4 sized bed and your own desk and chair. They also benefit from a shared large lounge and kitchen area to relax with your flat mates.

Social Scenes
Parkway Gate is situated just off Oxford Road, known locally as the Student Quarter due to its popular clubs, pubs, bars, and university halls. The property is also just a five-minute walk from the town centre, so you’re never far from the action.
Parkway Gate is a five-minute walk from the University of Manchester, UMIST, Manchester Metropolitan University, Royal Northern College of Music and Northern Ballet School campuses, so the area is very popular with students.
There is also an ASDA and Sainsbury’s located around 15 minutes’ walk away. Both supermarkets can be reached by a 10-minute bus ride from Oxford Road.
Concert-goers flock to Oxford Road for venues such as the Palace Theatre, Manchester Academy, RNCM, Dancehouse Theatre, Green Room, Cornerhouse, and Contact Theatre; all of which are located in the area within a 10-minute walk of Parkway Gate.
Manchester has many open public areas, popular with joggers, dog walkers and students alike. Hulme Park is around 10 minutes’ walk from New Medlock House. The park is large, spacious and green and is a great place for sunbathing as well as having a BMX track and skate ramps.
There is also Platt Fields park, which is a 15-minute bus journey from New Medlock House, which has both basketball and tennis courts, as well as an ‘eco-garden’.
Also, a five-minute walk away from the accommodation is Manchester Museum, which is part of The University of Manchester.
Getting Active
The Manchester Aquatics Centre is just five minutes’ walk from Parkway Gate. Built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the centre has two 50m swimming pools, a diving pool, scuba diving centre, leisure pool with water slides, sauna and steam rooms, sunbeds, and a gym. Students can take advantage of a special discounted membership rate.
On campus you will find there are plenty of Students’ Union sports clubs including football for men and women, American football, cricket, rugby and many more.
Sports fans are spoilt for choice in Manchester. From Parkway Gate, head south-west down Stretford Road to Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium. Nearby, you’ll also find Old Trafford cricket ground which hosts many England tests.
To the north east of the city sits Sportcity Manchester, home to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Manchester Velodrome, the National BMX Arena, and the National Squash Centre. This area can be easily reached by the city’s extensive bus and tram network.

Close and convenient

Travel and Transport
Parkway Gate benefits from excellent transport links, being close to train stations, Metrolink stations and plenty of bus links. Situated just off Oxford Road, it is right next to one of the busiest bus routes in the UK, meaning you can access everything Manchester has to offer with ease.
There is a free bus service that runs through Manchester city centre and will take you to destinations such as Manchester Piccadilly Station and Shude Hill (close to the Arndale Shopping Centre).
Parkway Gate is also a five-minute walk away from Oxford Road train station, with trains that can take you to several destinations around the UK.
There is also the recently re-developed Metrolink service which runs every five minutes. The Metrolink stop on St. Peters Square is located around a 10-minute walk away from Parkway Gate.
Local Essentials
Just a 15-minute walk, or a five-minute bus journey, from Parkway Gate is the Arndale Centre, which has over 200 shops and restaurants. Other city centre shopping areas such as Market Street and King Street are also close by.
You can also get the Metrolink to the Trafford Centre, which is one of the largest indoor shopping centres in Europe, and is about a 20-minute journey from the property.
Closer to Parkway Gate, Oxford Road has a Tesco Metro and a Sainsbury’s Local which are both within five minutes’ walk, as well as many coffee shops, takeaways and restaurants all situated close by.
Both the Manchester Library and the University library are 10 minutes’ walk from Parkway Gate. The free shuttle bus can take you to both libraries, so you don’t need to worry if you have too many books to carry.
Your Wellbeing
Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester Dental Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital are all located on Oxford Road, just a short walk from Parkway Gate.
Both universities offer welfare, financial and career advice to all their students and these can be found in advice clinics within both MMU and Manchester University campuses. Parkway Gate is close to all the campus departments, so students are never far away from any help they need.
