What does the Renters’ Rights Act mean for my booking?

From 1 May 2026, the Renters' Rights Act comes into effect in England.

If you currently live with us (25/26 academic year), then your booking will remain in place. We will issue documents to you by 31 May 2026, which brings everything in line with the Renters’ Rights Act. We’ll also include an information booklet released by government, which will provide information on the incoming changes.

If you have booked with Unite Students for a summer stay, you don’t need to worry. The agreements we use for these types of bookings are not affected by the changes brought in by the Renters’ Rights Act.

If you have booked with us for next the year academic year (26/27), you will have a tenancy exempt from the Renters’ Rights Act. This is called a Common Law Tenancy. Following governments release of an information sheet, we’ll be sharing this, alongside relevant documentation, with all students due to move in with us by 31 May 2026.
